In October, many divisions began the Global Read Aloud Project. Around the world, teachers registered their classes to participate in a global literacy project that focuses on making global connections through sharing the joy of a good book. There were over 300, 000 students participating in this years' Global Read Aloud Project. The grade threes and intermediate students read a novel with their teachers while all classes that visit the library participated in the Peter H. Reynolds author study with Mrs. Koppensteiner. Students worked on making connections with other students through a variety of activities. Primary students used Twitter to share their thoughts and art work with other students. Grade 6 and 7 students used Skype to connect with students in the eastern United States. Grade 4 and 5 students wrote KIdblog posts about their thoughts about the novel. We created two art projects inspired by the Peter Reynolds' books Ish and The Dot. It was our first year participating in the project and many of the activities were new to students (and teachers) but we all enjoyed the opportunity to make some global connections.
